Hearing Tests

One of our most popular services is our hearing tests. Hearing screenings and tests can be done from age 4 and up. Hearing tests are offered complimentary for ages 55 +.

On the day of your hearing test, you will be welcomed at iDenture and Hearing and asked to fill out a case history form regarding your hearing concerns. A hearing test usually takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes depending on your hearing condition. The test itself includes many different steps:

  1. Review hearing concerns and case history: Our trained professionals will discuss all hearing concerns and examine the patient's medical and hearing history.
  2. Otoscopy: During this phase we examine the outer ear canal for wax or foreign objects and analyze the health of the eardrum.
  3. Tympanometry: Using special equipment, a small tip is placed in the outer ear canal to examine the middle ear or the space behind the eardrum. This quick test can provide information on how well the eardrum is moving as well as the presence of a perforation or any fluid in the ears. This gives us a representation of your overall ear health.
  4. Audiometry: This is the actual testing phase to examine the presence of any hearing loss. During this phase, the patient will sit in a booth and click a button each time they hear a tone. Tones will be presented at varying levels of loudness at different pitches.
  5. Review hearing test results: After the test, our hearing professional will discuss the results of the test and answer any questions. Here we will examine which specific sounds are difficult to hear and discuss possible treatment plans that will best suit the needs of a patient.
  6. Hearing aid trial: If the patient is a hearing aid candidate, they have the option of trying a no obligation hearing aid trial to see exactly what they are missing. This is the best way for the patient to determine if a hearing aid will be beneficial in their lifestyle.
